Shimla: Queen of the Hills

The mountains turned to foothills as we journeyed south to Shimla, capital of Himachal Pradesh.

Set along a ridge with a strategic vantage above the heat of the plains, the city was the summer capital of India during British rule.

The British influence of yesteryears is apparent.

Ridge line sprawl--even in the mountains India builds out, not up.

Looking toward the plains the full reach of vision is cut short by haze heavy air.

Gangs of mischievousness monkeys are all over town.

Cars aren't allowed into the huge market that is the center of town, everything is carried in and out on foot so people get creative.

Get an old fashion straight-blade shave or beard trim for abour 50 cents--Nico in the background going for the latter.

Super tasty hard cider is a specialty of the state.

"Environment Friendly?"
Better than the plastic cups used by many tea stalls I suppose, but why not use reusables like the fork?
