Understanding the Rise of China

You can't conceptualize the rise of China (or the East in general) by applying the same lens of understanding used to view nations in the West. I quite like the three points of consideration raised by Martin Jacques in this video, but of course this is only a start:

If you're interested in further exploration of the fundamentally different thought structures employed by the East and West I would highly recommend the book Geography of Though by Richard Nisbett. With the decline of absolute Western global dominance that we're now watching it seems promised that Eastern though will only continue its rise in international prominence-- as a Westerner cultivating an awareness for it has never been more important.
